Mentor Community Spotlight: Manuel Feldmann

I really like this position because, on the one hand I can support learners, and on the other hand I am part of great online education projects.

Our spotlight this week is on Manuel Feldmann. Manuel is a Mentor for all courses in the Digital Marketing Specialization

Share something about yourself

I am a Political Scientist with focus on modern communication, social media and PR. Moreover I am a PR-Specialist FJS. I am also a Digital Marketing Consultant and Community Ambassador. I am also preparing my doctoral thesis.

What was your first Coursera course, how did you find out about it and why did you decide to take it?

My first Coursera course was Marketing in a Digital World with Professor Rindfleisch. I found it on the german version of Google. I decided to take it, because I had changed my whole career in to a more marketing direction and was looking for popular online courses.

Which course(s) do you Mentor? What do you like most about the course(s)?

I am a mentor for all six courses in the Digital Marketing Specialization.

The professors are doing a really good job and I like most that they are communicating with the learners in the forums. I also like that the courses cover both theories and practical application.

How did you decide to become a Mentor?

After I finished the Digital Marketing Specialization, the University asked me if I want to become a mentor for two courses. This was great because I am currently preparing my doctoral thesis and I looked for experiences as a mentor or tutor. Later in 2016, I became a mentor for the other four courses too. I really like this position because, on the one hand I can support learners, and on the other hand I am part of great online education projects.

What would be your number one tip to give to a new Mentor just starting out?

My number one tip, is: if you are unsure on how to reply a learner’s question, ask your Mentor colleagues or the instructor. It makes no sense to answer something and then find your response was wrong. Therefore I highly recommend to take the Mentor Training course provided by the Coursera community team as well. This has helped me a lot.
